Head of Worship

As a talented contemporary worship leader, you will have a vision for being immersed in and focused on the City Gates community, be servant-hearted and Holy Spirit led, seeking to hear God’s voice in all that you do. You will be expected to consider City Gates as your home church, and to actively support the values and vision of the church.
Overseeing Sunday Services is just a part of the busy weekly calendar, you will lead worship on Sunday’s (Two services), at additional events and meetings as and when required, including occasional weddings and funerals. We have an established and skilled worship team, and you will be responsible for leading and shaping that team, with the help of the Creative Director.
It is a Genuine Occupational Requirement to be a practising Christian as set out in the Equalities Act 2010. You will be required to work on Sundays and on other key Christian celebrations, such as Christmas and Easter, unless otherwise agreed with your line manager.
Key Responsibilities
• Shape the vision for worship in line with the vision for City Gates Church
• Coach and develop singers, band and build community to enable the team to work effectively in pursuit of the vision
• Actively identify, recruit and train new members of the worship team
• Regularly lead worship at Sunday services and gatherings, monthly prayer gathering meeting (first Tuesday of the month), and other church events (e.g. Good Friday outreach and additional Christmas events)
• Oversee, alongside the production manager, the care and maintenance of the band, sound and
production equipment
• Carry out relevant administrative activities in support of the worship team, including creating
rotas using planning centre online, maintaining music licences, as well as preparing and
overseeing setlists and multitracks.
• Organising and preparing for weekly rehearsals on Wednesday evening’s and monthly team
nights.
• Assist the Creative director in discipling members of the worship team in their walk with God.
• Assist Creative Director in providing pastoral care and support to the worship team as required.
This may include meeting and counselling them outside of work hours if needed or meeting them
at their place of work.
• Regularly introduce new songs to the song repertoire and evaluate the repertoire often.
• Work closely with the kids, youth and young adults ministry leaders to oversee and develop the
worship expression among these age groups.
• Develop and implement an instrumental training programme for training children and young
people.
• Working with the Creative Director on Church Productions throughout the year.
• Carry out any reasonable task as required by your line manager in support of the ministry and
work of City Gates Church.
Essential criteria
• A passion for leading people in worship and an understanding of its importance in the role of church life
• Experienced and skilled worship leader with a strong singing voice, confident in leading from guitar and/ or keyboard
• Actively listens to God and the Holy Spirit and leads worship with Christian discernment
• This role requires you to be a practising Christian.
• Experience gained in a worship pastor or relevant role.
• Profess a deep Christian faith and ability to align to City Gates Church vision and values
• Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to connect with people of all ages and backgrounds and resolve conflict
• Skilled at building and growing teams, with an ability to motivate people towards a shared vision • Experience in discipling others to grow their relationship with God
• Experience of operating sound and video desks and training others to create the correct sound • Reliable, honest and trustworthy (we have a high regard for professionalism and integrity)
Desirable criteria
• Post graduate qualification in music or equivalent
• Teaching experience
• Ability to play multiple instruments in a band setting
• Experience in leading teams in a larger church setting • Experience with Multitracks/Ableton/Logic Pro
